Seven months after her father passed away from a heart attack, Mickie went to a 9Health Fair. Her blood screening results indicated that her cholesterol levels were high. She went to her doctor who referred her to a cardiologist. An angiogram showed a partial blockage in her artery. Since then, she has made important changes in her life – she is on medication, receives regular checkups and goes to 9Health Fair every year - except last year to attend her son’s wedding! She believes 9Health Fair helped save her life and prevented her from suffering a heart attack like her father.

As a native to Colorado, Esther served as site coordinator for the Department of Human Services Food Stamp Office 9Health Fair for three years. During those three years, she also participated in the 9Health Fair screenings and learned she had high cholesterol and high triglycerides. Since then, she has worked with her primary care provider to manage these concerns.
Esther now sits on the 9Health Fair Community Involvement Committee (CIC). Esther says her favorite thing about 9Health Fair is that it is for everybody, whether you have insurance or not.

MEDICAL Advisory Committee
Unique to 9Health Fair, the Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) is comprised of Colorado's
top health care providers and allied health care professionals, who guide 9Health
Fair in providing quality and evidence-based health screenings and education to
our community. Because of the MAC, 9Health Fair is endorsed by the Colorado Medical
Society, the Colorado Nurses Association and the Colorado Health and Hospital Association.
The MAC creates, reviews, and approves all 9Health Fair medical screening protocols,
as well as reviews all Interactive Educational Center requests. Through quarterly
evaluation and follow up of statistical data and screening results, the MAC ensures
that all 9Health Fair screenings meet the following criteria:
- Have sound scientific and medical basis
- Are useful in terms of identifying at-risk individuals or disease in a large population
- Screenings and/or materials must promote good health and health education, and they
must be free of commercial or self-promotional interest
- Screenings can be implemented on an efficient basis
-
The information provided to participants can be appropriately followed up within
the health care system so that participants are integrated into the existing system
9Health Fair screening protocols comply with these stringent criteria and undergo
periodic evaluation to ensure practical implementation: they must serve the goal
of promoting good health and health education of Coloradans, they cannot exist in
a vacuum and they must be woven into the fabric of health care systems throughout
Colorado. The MAC works diligently to involve health care providers as active 9Health
Fair members and to ensure quality screenings and follow up are provided to 9Health
Fair participants.
