Seven months after her father passed away from a heart attack, Mickie went to a 9Health Fair. Her blood screening results indicated that her cholesterol levels were high. She went to her doctor who referred her to a cardiologist. An angiogram showed a partial blockage in her artery. Since then, she has made important changes in her life – she is on medication, receives regular checkups and goes to 9Health Fair every year - except last year to attend her son’s wedding! She believes 9Health Fair helped save her life and prevented her from suffering a heart attack like her father.

"My husband and I attended the 9Health Fair in April of 2004 at the Susan M Duncan YMCA in Arvada. We had gone through most of the stations and were on our way out when we saw the line for skin screenings. It was shorter than usual so we decided to stop and get checked. Thank GOD we did. I was checked by the doctor who noticed a dark freckle on my left arm and a spot on my face; she recommended that both areas be checked by my doctor. I had the freckle on my arm removed and sent off to the lab. It was melanoma! It was .3mm deep so it was caught early. I will have to manage this for the rest of my life but now that I am educated, it will help me through any future incidents. While my doctor had a watch on this freckle, it was the 9Healthfair that recommended further inspection and treatment and may have saved my life. I will always be thankful to the 9Health Fair.”

INTERACTIVE Educational Centers
Interactive
Educational Centers (IECs) play integral roles in 9Health Fair's In the Community
and In the Classroom programs. IECs are comprised of many different local and statewide
organizations that provide a wide range of up-to-date health, wellness, and safety
information and education for the community and classroom. By providing accurate
and credible literature and hands-on demonstrations, IECs help participants to understand
the relationship between positive lifestyles and their overall health. Most of all
they help promote health awareness and encourage participants to assume responsibility
for their own health , the 9Health Fair mission.
The IEC program is an excellent opportunity to connect with local communities, organizations,
and volunteers to provide a community service that is focused on one single, extraordinary
cause - Your Community's Health!
There is no charge to be a 9Health Fair IEC. The program is for the health and education
of the community, not for business or clientele expansion/promotion. IEC representatives
are not allowed to treat, perform screenings, make diagnoses or provide referrals
of any kind, regardless of their qualifications. All applicants are screened by
our Medical Advisory Committee, a statewide representation of medical experts, who
guide 9Health Fair in providing quality and evidence-based health education to our
community.
