  • The 2012 spring 9Health Fairs are just around the corner! Although the traditional "9Days" run from April 21 - 29, we have fairs running as early as March and as late as mid-May. Information about locations, dates, screenings and online registration will be available in February.
  • According to the 2011 Colorado Health Access Survey, 85% of uninsured Coloradans said they don't have health insurance because it costs too much. You should be able to get the care you need to stay healthy and see a doctor when needed without unpredictable costs and other barriers. Working together, we can move Colorado closer to that common-sense goal. Share your thoughts and ideas with us on Facebook.

  • 9Health Tip: They are known as Whip-its, Poppers or Snappers. They are steel chargers filled with nitrous oxide that are often found in whip cream canisters. Nitrous oxide is being used by some teens and adults who are looking for a cheap way to get high. What many don’t know is how dangerous this can be. It displaces oxygen, leaving less of it in the bloodstream. Because the blood carries oxygen throughout the body, diminished oxygen can result in brain damage, loss of consciousness or even death. The American Academy of Pediatrics is recommending routine substance abuse screening for not only substance abuse like whip-its, but also for alcohol and tobacco, to adolescents during routine clinical care. See what this Nurse.com article has to say. Have you talked to your teens about whip-its and other substances? Share with us on Facebook.
  • 9Health Tip: For years, school cafeterias have been working on serving healthier foods. Now a bill before the state legislature would give Colorado the nation's toughest limits on unhealthy fats in school food. The bill would make margarines, vegetable shortening and other traditional trans-fats off limits, forcing schools to look at healthier food selections. Some say the ban goes too far. What do you think? See what Dr. John from 9News has to say and then share your opinion with us on Facebook
