"My husband and I attended the 9Health Fair in April of 2004 at the Susan M Duncan YMCA in Arvada. We had gone through most of the stations and were on our way out when we saw the line for skin screenings. It was shorter that usual so we decided to stop and get checked. Thank GOD we did. I was checked by the doctor who noticed a dark freckle on my left arm and a spot on my face; she recommended that both areas be checked by my doctor. I had the freckle on my arm removed and sent off to the lab. It was melanoma! It was .3mm deep so it was caught early. I will have to manage this for the rest of my life but now that I am educated, it will help me through any future incidents. While my doctor had a watch on this freckle, it was the 9Healthfair that recommended further inspection and treatment and may have saved my life. I will always be thankful to the 9Health Fair.”

As a native to Colorado, Esther served as site coordinator for the Department of Human Services Food Stamp Office 9Health Fair for three years. During those three years, she also participated in the 9Health Fair screenings and learned she had high cholesterol and high triglycerides. Since then, she has worked with her primary care provider to manage these concerns.
Esther now sits on the 9Health Fair Community Involvement Committee (CIC). Esther says her favorite thing about 9Health Fair is that it is for everybody, whether you have insurance or not.

Volunteer Opportunities
Health Care + Community + Education + Helping Others = 9Health Fair
- Do you want to make a difference in the Health of your community?
- Do you want to help your family, friends and neighbors access free and low cost health screenings and information?
- Do you want to help students at your school learn the latest information that lets them “get their health on?”
- Do you have skills and time that you want to share to help your community?
If you answered yes to any of the above, then 9Health Fair is the place for you! Whether you’re interested in helping to run a health fair in your community, be a project manager/team leader, be a liaison for our classroom program, or help us to pack medical supplies for the fair, we need you and your special talent! There are countless ways that people can help 9Health Fair continue to put on over 170 community fairs that reach 100,000 people annually, provide health education in more than 50 schools for over 26,000 students, and do outreach to new communities and help us ensure that our operations run smoothly all year round. Here is just a sampling of some of our regular volunteer opportunities:
- Site Coordinators/Team leaders for Community Fairs: These are the individuals who are the overall coordinators for a 9Health Fair in their community
- Volunteer Recruiters/Talent Scouts: If you love working with volunteers and have experience with volunteer recruitment and/or management, we have many openings for you to help out. This is a major volunteer need with every fair, as well as for year round volunteer opportunities. You can help out in your community, at the office, from the comfort of your home.
- Bilingual Coordinators: We have increasing need for people who are fluent in more than one language. Helping out on the Hotlines, filling volunteer roles throughout the day of the Fair, doing outreach in diverse communities. If you are bilingual and would enjoy helping us to coordinate other bilingual volunteers, we’d love your help here.
- Project Management: There are many opportunities for people to oversee a special area of work at a fair, in the classroom, year round. Areas include people with skills in logistics, customer service, crowd control, web design, manage our Hotlines, outreach to diverse communities.
- Training Specialist: Help to design and implement on-line trainings; leadership trainings.
- Distribution Coordinator: Packing and organizing medical supplies for fairs.
- Office: Receptionist support, calls, assisting with miscellaneous office needs
We need volunteers all year round and are happy to schedule real or “virtual” times that work for you. We also want you to know about some regular volunteer opportunity times:
