"My husband and I attended the 9Health Fair in April of 2004 at the Susan M Duncan YMCA in Arvada. We had gone through most of the stations and were on our way out when we saw the line for skin screenings. It was shorter that usual so we decided to stop and get checked. Thank GOD we did. I was checked by the doctor who noticed a dark freckle on my left arm and a spot on my face; she recommended that both areas be checked by my doctor. I had the freckle on my arm removed and sent off to the lab. It was melanoma! It was .3mm deep so it was caught early. I will have to manage this for the rest of my life but now that I am educated, it will help me through any future incidents. While my doctor had a watch on this freckle, it was the 9Healthfair that recommended further inspection and treatment and may have saved my life. I will always be thankful to the 9Health Fair.”

“My thyroid level was really high and 9Health Fair tried, but couldn’t reach me by phone. So, through their follow up process, 9Health Fair expedited my results to my house and included a cover letter saying that I had to seek immediate medical attention. I can’t tell you how much I appreciated their persistence in tracking me down.”

Seasonal Flu and H1N1 (Swine) Flu Recommendations

As you all know we are facing a challenging flu season this year with both our seasonal influenza (flu) and the H1N1 influenza virus (swine flu).  Although cases of H1N1 are down, it is still a real threat.  Taking the following precautions will greatly reduce your risk for contracting the flu this flu season.

What can you do?

  1. Be informed!  The symptoms of H1N1 flu virus in people include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. A significant number of people who have been infected with this virus also have reported diarrhea and vomiting. Unfortunately, these are also the starting symptoms of other illnesses including seasonal influenza, common viral upper respiratory and gastric infections and can even be the presenting symptoms of pneumonia.
  2. Get your flu shots!  It is very important to get the regular flu vaccine every year, especially if you have any chronic medical conditions.  Flu tends to impact the very young and elderly patients more seriously.  Visit immunizecolorado.com for vaccination clinics near you.  More information is added on a daily basis.
  3. Wash your hands frequently!!! This is the number one step that you can personally take to help stop the spread of influenza (and many other infectious diseases)!  Please sneeze or cough into your elbow as opposed to your hand.  This will reduce the spread of droplets that can be spread by coughing and sneezing into your hand.
  4. If you are sick, stay home!  Don’t contribute to the spread of the disease.  If you are ill, stay home.  Many employers, schools and other public environments are adjusting their policies around sick leave and working from home.  You might want to check these out now before flu season is in arrives.  If you have mild symptoms and are doing okay, you don’t need to be seen.  If in doubt, call your health care provider for guidance.
  5. If you aren’t sure, check it out!  If you have questions about influenza, call your health care provider.  If you don’t have a health care provider call the COHELP Hotline at 1-877-462-2911.  It’s free.  The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) website is a great resource with lots of helpful information.  The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) website is also very helpful.  To find places where flu shots are being given in Colorado go to immunizecolorado.com.

Please share these tips with family, friends and colleagues!  Working together we really do make a difference!
