  • The 2012 spring 9Health Fairs are just around the corner! Although the traditional "9Days" run from April 21 - 29, we have fairs running as early as March and as late as mid-May. Information about locations, dates, screenings and online registration will be available in February.
  • According to the 2011 Colorado Health Access Survey, 85% of uninsured Coloradans said they don't have health insurance because it costs too much. You should be able to get the care you need to stay healthy and see a doctor when needed without unpredictable costs and other barriers. Working together, we can move Colorado closer to that common-sense goal. Share your thoughts and ideas with us on Facebook.

About Us

Seven months after her father passed away from a heart attack, Mickie went to a 9Health Fair. Her blood screening results indicated that her cholesterol levels were high. She went to her doctor who referred her to a cardiologist. An angiogram showed a partial blockage in her artery. Since then, she has made important changes in her life – she is on medication, receives regular checkups and goes to 9Health Fair every year - except last year to attend her son’s wedding! She believes 9Health Fair helped save her life and prevented her from suffering a heart attack like her father.

"I’m proud to be part of the foundation that brought 9Health Fair to Colorado communities. It gives me a great sense of purpose, particularly in the rural communities. I’m the lucky one. I get back far more than I give."

In the Classroom Program Background

The concept of a student-staffed health fair was the original idea of the National Health Screening Council of Volunteer Organizations. The program was first introduced to Colorado students as 9Give 'Em Health in 1982. At that time, it was a pilot program limited to Denver and Jefferson County schools. Due to overwhelming success, it has grown statewide and is now known as 9Health Fair In the Classroom. Fairs are held throughout the school year in elementary, middle, and high schools across Colorado. This program is administered through the 9Health Fair office in Denver.

GOALS

The goals of 9Health Fair In the Classroom are as follows:

  • Provide an opportunity for the student coordinators to become leaders in their communities.
  • Encourage students to assume responsibility for their own health and to set attainable health goals.
  • Raise awareness and help students understand how healthy choices can affect their overall health and safety.
  • Offer screenings and interactive displays & activities that provide educational, hands-on experiences.
  • Answer health questions and refer students to additional medical attention as needed.
  • Inform students of health and safety resources available in their community.
  • Help detect and prevent potential health problems.

COMPONENTS

A 9Health Fair In the Classroom fair is composed of the following: health screenings; 9Health Fair-provided displays & activities; community educational organizations; and "Ask a Health Professional."
