Take 10 Minutes – Answer 10 Questions – Impact 10 Years
The Census counts every person living in the United States once, only once, and in the right place. 9Health supports the Census because much of the federal funding for community health for the next ten years will be determined by an accurate count. You are asked to respond to the census by April 1, 2020.
There are three things to remember about the 2020 Census: It’s Important. It’s Easy. It’s Safe.
It’s important because the census numbers are used in determining how federal funds are distributed. It is estimated that for every Coloradoan that is counted, the state will receive an average of $2,300 per person per year for use in education, transportation, emergency food and shelter and other important health and human services programs. It’s Important!
It’s easy because you will receive a letter in early March with instructions for completing the census online. You can also complete the census over the phone. If you do not respond, a census Bureau Interview will come to your home. There are only 10 questions. It’s Easy!
It’s safe because all data is protected under Title 13 of the U.S. Code. Records are confidential for 72 years. Data is only released in summary tables; no individual records are released. All Census Bureau employees swear a lifetime oath to protect respondent information. It’s Safe!

Remember, when you complete your census form, you help bring in funding to Colorado for vital services, provide valuable aggregate data for state and local decisions, and ensure fair representation in the U.S. House of Representatives. The 2020 Census will shape the next 10 years, don’t leave your future blank!
