Oral Health Screenings for Kids Offered at Family 9Health Fairs

If you could prevent one of the most common threats to your kids’ health, would you do it? Most people would answer yes, but surprisingly only 9.3 percent of children have visited a dentist by the age of one, as recommended by the American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dental caries (cavities) are the leading chronic disease among Colorado’s children, and they are five times more prevalent than asthma.
9Health Fair has stepped up its efforts to help children gain access to oral health. Several of the Family 9Health Fairs this fall will offer fluoride varnishes for kids and oral health screenings for adults and kids – at no cost! You can find a fair each weekend from September 13 through November 8.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment found in the 2011-2012 school year that 39.7 percent of kindergarten children in Colorado had experienced dental caries.  In low-income and minority populations, early childhood caries is an epidemic and public health emergency; we are discovering that large health disparities do exist.

The good news is most oral diseases are preventable when habits like fluoride, teeth brushing, flossing and regular check-ups become a part of a child’s routine. 9Health Fair offers this important oral health screening, so find a fair  for you and your kids to attend this fall.
