Providing for the Community Year-Round

9Health is committed to providing year-round health education in addition to our regular health fairs in the spring and fall seasons.

This year-round effort includes going out into the community to provide free health screenings and education to those that need it.

One such recent event involves a partnership with CREA Results and Metro Caring, a food bank in Denver, “We’re really excited about this partnership and this opportunity to serve so many people. It’s a great thing to take medical screening services in the community where people are,” says Tracy Pineda, Director of Operations for CREA Results.

At the Metro Caring event, participants received free blood pressure, height, weight, and BMI screenings along with a hemoglobin A1C test which is a blood screening that measures average blood sugar control and is a good indicator for type 2 diabetes risk, “A lot of chronic illnesses like diabetes, high blood pressure, those can actually  be prevented. What we’re trying to do is if we can implement nudges and coaching, maybe these people won’t have to suffer with these chronic illnesses,” says Karen Garcia with 9Health.

“I got information about my A1C, which was not too good, but I also received resources,” explains participant Tondra Reagan. “They’ve shown me that with different foods and eating the right way, my life can be long lasting and healthy,” she adds.

Participants also received information about a recipe app called Veggie Book, and additional food bucks were provided for people on SNAP food assistance. “At 9Health we want to be very innovative about what tools are out there.”

9Health previously hosted a similar event at Grow Haus and plans to do another one in the future. In addition, we are working directly with the Food Bank of the Rockies to reach out to rural communities.
