“Being happy never goes out of style.” Lilly Pulitzer
Why It’s Good to Get Out and Connect with Others
During the holiday season, the idea of getting out and about may seem a little overwhelming with all the holiday obligations. However, according to Stanford University, social ties are actually good for your health.
Your relationships can add or subtract from the quality of your life. When you’re surrounded with those who lift you up, you tend to be happier. If you’re surrounded by those who tear you down, then you tend to be less confident and happy.
Stanford says that in our society social ties tend to fall toward the bottom of our list of priorities. That can lead to loneliness, which can then lead to depression.
Connect and Bond
Make sure you’re making ample time to connect with friends and family. There’s a lot to do around the Denver area this next month. If you’re really into the holidays, there are a couple of fun events you’ll want to check out. If you’re over the holiday season, there’s plenty of non-holiday related events to check out too.
A Hudson Christmas – If you love admiring Christmas lights, head over to the Hudson Gardens. Tickets run for $6-$9 for this premier light show and visits with Santa.
Denver Christkindl Market – In its 16th year, the Denver Christkindl Market runs until December 23rd at Skyline Park. There, you’ll find music, beer and Gluehwein, gifts, crafts and all-around holiday fun!
If you’re looking for an escape from the holidays, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science has three can’t-miss shows in their planetarium.
One World One Sky: Big Birds Adventure – This one’s for the kids! (Elmo will be there too!)
Black Holes: The Other Side of Infinity – Nothing escapes a black hole. Not even light.
Cosmic Journey: A Solar System Adventure – Volcanoes, hurricanes and multicolored rings suspended in air.
Whatever you decide to check out, find a friend or family member that you haven’t seen in a while and get out together to rebuild your connection. It’ll be fun!
